Blog #6 What is Bliss? Anne Porter Hudgins
What is Bliss?
This was just a side note question on a day in class, but the question caught my attention, and I wanted to dive into what Bliss is. Obviously, the first place I went seeking an answer was Google, where every good study first visits (just kidding), but it is where my search began; the Webster dictionary defines it as "complete happiness, paradise, heaven," After reading this definition, my question shifted to, can Bliss be found on earth? If so, what does it look like? Is it different for everyone?
Questions:
Where does Bliss come from?Bliss or pure happiness is found in different areas for everyone and through various modes. We all want to seek this happiness and this moment of Bliss. Have you ever met this Bliss? If so, what did it feel like? Did any moment lead you to this state of mind or purely from within?
At the age of 21, I have little to compare, but there was one moment in high school where I broke off a bad relationship (maybe helped with the comparison). It was a few weeks later, and suddenly I was driving home from school. I'll never forget the feeling that went through my body. Purely free to be the person I was created to be. In reality, I felt almost high on life; I had never drunk or done a drug. It was all coming from within. It was about 2 mins long. I had a visible smile and tingles of joy. Nothing prompted it; a rush filled me with gratitude and happiness, purely unbothered and happy. Is this Bliss? Who am I to say if it was but? I will never forget the feeling. I have had other small moments of pure happiness but nothing as sustained. I couldn't help but wonder what that feeling meant.
Completely aware this could sound crazy to someone. I understand. I want to know if others have felt a similar feeling and struggled to put to words or reason the experience.
