Blog #1 Is Lucy a liar?

In Lewis’ the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe we are met with an interesting dialogue between the professor and the kids about Lucy’s so-called lie about entering into the world of Narnia. The professor winsomely steered the conversation in Lucy's favor by questioning the siblings about Lucy’s integrity. Was Lucy a snot-nosed lying brat? Or was she a virtuous and kind little girl? Lucy was not known to lie about anything yet Peter and Susan were certain that their innocent little sister was a liar.

Now the question remained for Peter and Lucy, what do they trust more, their personal senses or the witness of trustworthy individual? I perceive this as the chief sin of most contemporary thinkers and scientists. For some reason or another they have such a strong devotion to materialism that in the name of reason they themselves become unreasonable. Should we trust the integrity of an eyewitness account or our modern notions of materialism? Or maybe there is something else entirely missing. Perhaps the whole system that we measure truth is flawed? Perhaps there is more to existence than just matter and energy?
