Aslan's Country - Jacob (Blog Post 7)
At the end of the Last Battle, the children entered Aslan’s country. Lewis describes it as this, “All their life in this world and all their adventures in Narnia had only been the cover and the title page: now at last they were beginning Chapter One of the Great Story, which no one on earth has read: which goes on for ever: in which every chapter is better than the one before.” There is great resonance with this and the conversation that happens at the end of Perelandra. There is no ultimate finale, endings always leading into new beginnings. In the Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Aslan tells the characters that his country is connected to all the worlds. It’s not that Aslan’s country is a world among worlds, but it is the true form of all the worlds. All this reminds me of the time in class when Dr. Reddick brought up his dream, I forget where the dream took place, it was heaven in the dream but it was also a real place on earth. There is an echo of this in the Gospels. The kingdom of heaven dwells among us, yet we do not yet have eyes to see it. It’s not so much that it is place distinct from this world, but, rather, it is the world’s true reality.
