#4 - Mental Health and Spirituality - Aubrey Torre

Mental health is something that is very important to me, and so I wanted to share some of the ways that I have learned to cope with my own mental health struggles. Learning about wellness was a long journey for me, but I’ve found that being open about the topic has allowed for significant growth. There are many ways to ground yourself, however, I find meditation and Yoga to be very beneficial, along with morning walks and journaling.

Meditation is something that I have been doing for a while now. It relaxes the body, opens the mind, and provides an outlet for self-exploration. When I first started I would fall asleep, but I realized that was what my body needed at that moment. Sometimes I put on a guided meditation when I feel like I need a little bit of help focusing on a specific topic. I’ll do this before going to sleep at night, or even sometimes in the morning when I have time. Also, adding crystals is an interesting way to focus on a specific intention going into the meditation. I do this frequently.

Tarot is also a tool I use to calm the mind and gain insight into what I need to focus on during the course of the day or even in my meditations. Contrary to popular belief, tarot is not about “predicting the future.” It’s actually a tool to connect with yourself and the world around you. They can also provide meaning to the situations you find yourself in, and allow you to expand on possible solutions.

Along that line, brewing a good loose-leaf tea and settling down with a book is a great thing to do for wellness. Allowing yourself to digest the day and relax is so important when it comes to mental health. If you’re always going a mile a minute, how are you taking in the circumstances around you? Rest is something that should never feel like you have to “earn.” Everyone deserves rest. We are all human, and sometimes that means taking days to ourselves and doing the things that make you happy.

Obviously I’m still learning as I go, so if anyone else has any ideas or tips that they would like to share, I’m all ears!
